I built a thing:

Kinja'd!!!

And I baked a thing:

Kinja'd!!!

And I only have 2/37 bags left of LEGO Hogwarts Castle.

I’ve had a makeshift tv stand since my old tv was fried around the Daytona 24 hours last year. This isn’t very aesthetically pleasing but it’s a lot more useful than a pile of cords on the floor, plus it fits an Ikea cat bed/cave. Unfortunately it isn’t Ikea and was even more of a PITA to assemble, but it’ll be fine for now.

Nah, it’s Target, I couldn’t bring myself to deal with the traffic between my house and ikea. I’d have more confidence if it was, honestly.

And yeah, I don’t want a wall-mounted TV but I’m probably going to figure out a backup system.

I started building bed frame in CAD. It’s going to be neat. A 2x4 frame with rough cut cherry facade to make it look like its all cherry. The base will be set in so it looks like it’ s floating.

That looks like the same Vizio I have in my bedroom. I ended up mounting it to the wall with a kit from Amazon because it was kind of wobbly and made me nervous it would fall over. How is the quality of that Target storage unit? Every time I see them there I’m tempted to pick up a few for organizing my kids’ toys.

It’s shit. This isn’t ReStore (or whatever the lowest end option was) but I’m still not impressed. The particle board that the outside frame is made of feels really lightweight and pretty flimsy - it came out of the box with a giant dent on one panel. All of the internal pieces are held together with wooden dowels that you dip in water to activate the glue. If the water sits on the white parts, it’ll leave spots. And then the dowels expand and get sticky as you’re putting other pieces together, so by the time you put the top and bottom boards on they reaaallllyy don’t want to go in the existing holes, but you can’t use a hammer because it’ll dent the frame so the outer frame pieces end up looking slightly warped instead.

But tl;dr, I think the cubbies in my closet might be the cheapest option and I don’t remember being nearly so fed up  or frustrated when I put them together.

Yeah, we have the Ikea version in my daughter's bedroom. It's actually rather strong.

Those dowels sound really annoying.

It’s amazing the difference in assembly design and instructions, too. It’s obvious that IKEA is taking that into account through the whole process  while this felt like someone gave a 4 -year-old a final product idea and a pile of blocks.

Thank you for that. Was looking at one for my new house. May pass on it and keep looking for stuff from the 50's. When it was built to last!

I definitely prefer real furniture :) My whole upstairs is flat pack just because the stairs go up under the roof  so it’s a max of 5’ tall on the inside of the staircase and 3’ on the outside...thank god for memory foam mattresses.
